If you are a lover of hiking and mountain history, you will surely enjoy this curiosity from the Malá Fatra Mountains. On the Medziholie saddle (1,185 m a.s.l.), where today hiking trails from Štefanová to Veľký Rozsutec and Stoh intersect, there once stood the Hut under Rozsutec – also known as the Weider Hut.
A Hut with Stunning Views
In the 1930s, a cozy mountain hut was built here. It offered tourists not only overnight accommodation but also a wonderful place to rest and admire breathtaking panoramas. It served as a gateway to adventures in the heart of Malá Fatra.
Hard Times and Demise
The hut’s history was far from easy:
During World War II, it was burned down.
Later it was rebuilt, but its story did not end happily.
In 1985 it burned down for good and was never rebuilt again.
What Can You Find There Today?
Today, on Medziholie you will only find a spring of fresh water and the remains of the hut’s foundations. Still, the place breathes history, and many hikers stop here to rest and imagine what the mountain hut might have looked like beneath the majestic peaks of Rozsutec and Stoh.
A Hiking Tip
If you set out from Štefanová to Veľký Rozsutec or Stoh, you will pass directly by the place where this hut once stood. Take a moment to imagine how a rest with a cup of hot tea and views of the Malá Fatra might have felt.
A stay at Apartment Adventourist can thus be enriched with a trip full of history and mountain atmosphere. Rozsutec, Stoh, and the Medziholie saddle are places that show you not only the beauty of nature but also the stories that unfolded here.
